Different kinds of layers

Spiku, also associated with lapis Surabaya, is generally recognized by a small number of thicker cake layers. DNEVEN Classic Original, for example, has three chocolate and vanilla layers joined with strawberry jam. A cross-section makes the colors and flavor structure easy to see.

Lapis legit is usually built from many thin layers baked one after another. That process produces a denser, repeating pattern. Calling both of them layered cakes does not mean they offer the same texture.

Texture and serving style

Spiku has the soft character of cake with layers that remain visually distinct. A slice can be wide enough to show each flavor and then divided for the table. Lapis legit is typically denser and is often served in thinner slices.

The difference is not a ranking. The choice depends on the texture you enjoy and the way the cake will be served. Spiku works well when you want each layer to read clearly in one piece, while lapis legit offers its characteristic sequence of thin layers.

Look at the flavor composition

DNEVEN develops the spiku format through chocolate, vanilla, Indonesian spices, green tea, coffee, durian, and the pairing of charcoal and cheese. The spiku structure remains the foundation while each variety has a different flavor direction.

When choosing a Surabaya gift, look at the cross-section and read the flavor summary instead of relying only on the term layered cake. This helps the recipient understand whether they are receiving soft layered spiku or another layered cake with a different texture.
